Center Programs

Centro offers a combination of services falling into program categories of education and personal growth, justice and advocacy, and emergency “safety net” services.

  • Document Assistance: Our volunteers can help you complete paperwork for landlord/tenant, eviction defense, family law, immigration, contract, employment, and consumer issues. Assistance is available beginning at 9:00 am and the last client is taken at 3:00 pm.
  • Food Distribution: In 2013, in food only requests, Centro distributed approximately 26 tons of food to 2,590 Long Beach area families. Canned Food distribution is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. Bread is given daily as available.
  • Furniture and Clothing Center: Centro receives furniture and clothing which are sorted and provided to families and those needing job interview clothing. Our clothing room is open during normal business hours, 9:00 am until 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Free Citizenship Classes: Centro Shalom hosts free Citizenship Classes for people looking to apply for American Citizenship. Classes are held every Tuesday night from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Centro Shalom. Classes are in Spanish and English. Interested individuals can sign up at Centro Shalom.
  • Thanksgiving Family Baskets: Every Thanksgiving, Centro Shalom and the community volunteers distribute over 500 free food baskets to families in need from the greater Long Beach area, allowing all families to have a dinner to be thankful for. More information will be available in October 2014.
  • Epiphany Celebration: Centro Shalom hosts an Epiphany Celebration on January 6 for all children to come and learn about the holiday and receive one free toy. For more information, call 562-591-2214.
